A fake job offer scam is a type of fraud where someone pretends to offer you a job online - often promising easy money for simple tasks you can do from home, such as liking videos, writing reviews, or helping with “administrative” work online.

How does it work?

You are contacted (often via social media, SMS, or email) by someone claiming you can make quick money by doing small tasks from home. This often involves registering on different websites, performing simple tasks, or transferring money for them.

What is the purpose of the scam?

The purpose is usually to trick you into:

  • Sending money onwards (money laundering, which is illegal)

  • Sharing your bank details or personal information

  • Losing money to “registration fees” or similar costs

How can I recognize a task scam?

  • The job requires no qualifications but promises high pay

  • They want your bank details or to pay you directly

  • You are asked to forward money from your account

  • Unprofessional email addresses, poor language, or strange instructions

  • You cannot find any real information about the company

What should I do if I suspect a task scam?

  • Do not reply or share any personal information

  • Never send money on behalf of anyone else

  • Contact your bank if you have already made a transaction

  • Report to the police immediately if you believe you have been targeted
