Polygon was created in 2019 and is an independent protocol that has its own decentralized blockchain networks. However, it connects to Ethereum to provide it with a so-called Layer-2 solution (Layer 2 is responsible for converting data packets sent to the Internet Layer) into binary data. Through Polygon, other decentralized networks or apps (dApps) compatible with Ethereum can use Ethereum's robust and secure networks without incurring high gas fees (transaction fees) and network congestion.
